There once existed a land known as The Land of the Eagle. The Land of the Eagle was governed by three cities Midgaard, Thalos, and Rome. Free trade flourished between Midgaard and Thalos with little or no disputes. Rome, being governed by Gods, kept to itself not wanting its worshipers to be influenced by pagan beliefs. The people of Midgaard worshipped a gigantic serpent and in return the serpent kept Midgaard safe. It was during this time of prosperity that a band of adventurers discovered a mysterious tomb far beyond the known territories. The adventurers pried open the tomb releasing what has come to be known as the Great Evil. Leaving the decimated bodies of the adventurers behind the Great Evil sought nourishment. The Great Evil circled over Thalos for months getting stronger off the destruction of the city and the despair of the survivors. Leaving Thalos in ruins it turned its attention to Rome. Little is known of the battle except that Rome still stands unscarred and the Great Evil grew in power. In Thalos the survivors discovered that the Great Evil had tainted their city making it uninhabitable. Led by the brave explorer Rand, the survivors headed west determined to establish a new city. Resting only when necessary, he pushed the weary survivors onward into the unknown. Days later Rand suddenly stopped and placed his palm against the ground. Some stories carried down through generations say that Rand’s hand glowed with magical force. It was at this spot that Rand instructed the survivors to build the city that became New Thalos. Years passed as Rand’s ancestors taught the people of New Thalos the arcane arts In time New Thalos became known as a center for magical knowledge. The sorcerer Rand led a group of supporters east past Midgaard to establish a settlement and expand New Thalos influence. The people of New Thalos would not hear from Rand again until Kerofk led by Rand attacked New Thalos. The magical battle raged for weeks. In the end, Kerofk and New Thalos remained intact and Rand and all he built disappeared . To this day the story of that tremendous battle remains a legend told around campfires. Following the disappearance of Rand, many dark powers rose and fell broken by periods of peace. Until, that is, a special night in which many moons appeared in the sky and joined into a single mass whose light did cause the shadows to dance. These shadows have brought strange happenings with them. What is happening to the Land of the Eagle? Magicians mutter to themselves about "surges" and rumors are heard of an "Emperor" who will purge the land of all magicians. The forces of this mysterious Emperor have overtaken Midgaard and users of arcane magic are hunted down and put to death. New Thalos has become the haven of the magi and it is caught between two major cities under the Emperor's rule. A new city, known as Bandwagon, appeared without warning across the sea from New Thalos. Dark forces are moving in this world. The Time of The Shadows has come.
